Eric Bishop Professor and engineer

Eric Bishop: I teach IT, study AI, and build software.

I teach information technology at Arizona State University, research how people and institutions can keep AI aligned with human interests, and build software of my own.

Teaching and research Academia

I’m an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Polytechnic School of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University, where I teach both online and on campus. In my classes, students build working systems, secure them, and explain their decisions. My classes cover:

  • Linux systems administration
  • DevOps and scripting
  • Python and programming logic
  • Information security

Highlights

  • Re-engineered five core IT courses: IFT 101, 202, 250, 383, and 488
  • Aligned ASU’s Linux courses with the Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) exam through Red Hat Academy
  • Faculty coach, Fulton Schools Learning and Teaching Hub
Books I Recommend

I’m also a PhD student in Human Systems Engineering at ASU. My research looks at sociotechnical alignment in AI: how cognitive biases, organizational incentives, and ethical tradeoffs shape the way people design and deploy AI systems, and how human-centered governance can keep those systems working in the public interest.
